Log 0004

[In the time since he was released from Zero, Scorpius has been spending the majority of his days in the library. The availability of knowledge from other universes is too irresistable to ignore, and much of his time is spent cataloging facts and figures he feels may be useful to him in the coming time]

The enormous accessibility of resources even to known prisoners on this ship continues to amaze me. I wonder if I might entreat on a warden who would be able to provide a personal databank? It's far easier than writing notes by hand.

Additionally, I would be interested to learn if anyone has bothered to map out the Barge's destinations ahead of schedule, or started to plan for each flood and port we encounter. It seems to be on a rotating cycle.

And there are still concepts I come across every day whose meanings continue to elude me. I have seen...[He pauses to double-check the name he's written down] Abbott and Costello's 'Who's on First' three times and each subsequent viewing leaves me more perplexed.

John, if this data reel is any indication of your species' intelligence, I don't know whether to feel superior or afraid.

[Private to Catra]

Have you tracked Crichton's meal cycles yet?

Humans were one of the four founding races of the Federation. Is your interest in biology?

Beyond the fact that I live on one.

[He frowns, thinking if he should say. But it is Spock.]

They are living ships, partially organic. The Peacekeepers had a project...

You see, Leviathans have no weapons. The Peacekeepers attempted to genetically engineer them with weapons. But, only one ever lived. That's the one I was living on before I came here. I'm sure he'd find it valuable to his cause.

[In Spock's experience these aren't the first things one does upon first contact, but his tone remains utterly mild and moderated.]

There are several books in the library. You may wish to begin with Freud, and move on to Clarke.

He has expressed an interest in you, personally.

[Which Spock is beginning to find a bit disturbing, honestly.]

Your tone of voice suggests "Peacekeeper" to be a misnomer. May I ask why?

[you didn't even try at all.jpeg]

There are truly so few humans?

Yes. It's an ability inherent to my species!

Most curious. The majority of my colleagues are human.

Because there is nothing peaceful about them. They are a militant race. You know Nazis? Kinda like that, only throw in some communist brainwashing to go with it. Add an entire fleet of war ships and they become a big frelling threat to peaceful space.

[He shouldn't really be surprised that his name came up. And yes, disturbing is a good word for it.]

His interest is not in me, but what he can get from me. What I'm not willing to give. He's willing to do anything to change that, and I do mean anything.

[He'll let the dark tone in his voice suggest that Scorpius has already tried a few less than savory things to get his way.]

It depends! Why do you ask?

I am not offended; your observation is indeed correct. I am half-human.

[He'd have liked to know Scorpius could do that, but well, he knows now.]

I am familiar with Earth's history.

[There's a very faint edge to it; this Spock has only just faced Khan, and there are two many parallels that he feels annoyed and uncomfortable thinking about. Add that to the fact that he's feeling at all.]

You have access to or knowledge of technology he does not possess. Hence his interest in human psychology?

Oh, certainly not. It is strictly regulated.

[Purity of — EXCUSE YOU you actually manage to shock him, such that the reply is a half-beat too late if he had no emotions on the subject.]

They do not. All attempts in the past have been subverted.

What of your heritage?

Yeah. And he's just itching to crack my brain open to get at it.

[And just recently he'd tried, literally. Which makes hearing that Scorpius is asking around about human psychology concerning in ways he doesn't really want to think too hard about.]

No.
