[Some time after Gard's unconscious, coma'd body is discovered and moved, Scorpius plants himself on the edge of the man's bed, casually running through his datapad to pass the time. There's no obvious reason to outsiders why he feels the need to watch over his warden in typical creeper fashion, but he does, and presumably will make difficult the lives of anyone attempting to get near to either without a solid reason]

In some ways, I feel as though a comatose warden is simply not holding up their end of the bargain. The game feels less interesting when one of the players is absent.

I wonder if Hiziki Gard thought to leave anyone in charge of my supervision in the event of his...disposal.

Ah, so Gard's comatose, is he? Wondered why I hadn't heard anything of him in a little while. At least that means you won't have him lurking over your shoulder.

Unless he has other means of keeping an eye on me. Simply because I haven't discovered any obvious spying mechanisms does not mean they are not already in place.

But I will remain on my guard, and give him no reason to think I would take advantage of his current incapacity.

Looks like the both of you will be doing your best to keep each other on their toes. [He's not envious, precisely. It's not the kind of game he'd enjoy playing - but he thinks Scorpius just might. Who's he to deny someone a little fun? It'll be...interesting, since he's somewhat caught in the middle.]

Honestly, he's far more preferable than a warden without the brains or willingness to stop me. I think better when I am not faced against idiots.

His range of experience is impressive, and he has a direct line to the ear of the Admiral. As does any warden, of course.

I can understand that. But you like a challenge. Me -- I'm not afraid of hard work, but there's only so many times you can put up with it when you keep running into roadblocks.

Allegedly. Oh, they have the authority to make requests, sure. But otherwise it doesn't seem like they know what's going on with him anymore than we do. Kind of makes you think.

Not especially. You were a businessman, Powers. Do you tell your immediate subordinates everything, or only what they need to know?

Oh goodness, no. But I'd take your point a bit more if not for the fact this barge is hardly a business. It claims to be working towards this lofty egalitarian concept -- and yet it's run a bit more like a dictatorial regime.

And I've never been one to not point out the obvious fly in the ointment.

The Barge does not claim anything except to offer deals to wardens in exchange for the redemption of inmates. Whether or not it cares about redemption as a whole has yet to be determined.

Whether or not the Admiral actually cares, I think you mean. Plenty of the flock have bought into the ideal hook, line and sinker.

Yet I would hate to impose any logic or sense to someone I have not seen or met before. He may operate on an entirely different system than what you or I are accustomed to.

All too true, I suppose. I like to think at least some measure of a man can be gathered however by his actions.

Or pointed lack thereof.

I should like to wait until I see him face to face before I make any sound judgments.

I probably don't have to tell you that given what they say, you shouldn't be holding your breath for that.

Of course not. But until that time, I will bide my own and not attribute any opinions, positive or negative, towards a man I have not yet met.
